Global Medicare, YASHODA India knee and hip specialists will operate in Dar es Salaam

This month, Dr. Ram Mohan Reddy and his associates from the renowned hospital YASHODA in Hyderabad, India, are anticipated to travel to the nation to perform specialized knee and hip surgery.

The specialized treatment will be provided at Muhimbilita National Hospital - Mloganzila branch, where the experts will collaborate with local knee and hip surgeons to perform the procedure.

According to Abdulmalik Mollel, Executive Director of Global Medicare, the nation's agent for medical tourism, doctors will operate at Mloganzila on August 26 and 28.

According to Mollel, the experienced doctors will work with the local experts in the camp to strengthen the local doctors' abilities by sharing experiences that will provide them with further training and the ability to execute such surgery even after the foreign doctor departs.

"Last year we held a surgery camp like this and it was a great success because there were more than 2,300 people who needed this service and our doctors did a great job in collaboration with foreign doctors and we expect this expert doctor in Hip and knee surgery will perform surgery to many people who will attend the camp to undergo a preliminary examination," according to him.

He noted that although Tanzanians with health issues had previously been receiving treatment abroad, a large number of them were now receiving care domestically as a result of government investments in the health system.

According to Mollel, the government has trained super specialists in a variety of medical specialties and made significant investments in medical equipment that uses cutting-edge technology similar to that found in major international nations.

"This is the ideal time for foreign qualified doctors to come to Tanzania to build capacity with their local colleagues who have been doing a great job," stated Mollel, who is also the director of Global Education Link (GEL). "Tanzania is currently equipped with enough modern equipment and qualified specialists like those in India and elsewhere."

Instead of traveling to other countries for treatment, which requires more time and money than it would if they came to Tanzania, he claimed that the availability of medical doctors in the nation has drawn many individuals from nearby nations to come here for treatment.

These new medical professionals present a fantastic opportunity since they will use the tools at their disposal and teach our doctors any skills they lack. Tanzania has become the hub for medical tourism in East Africa and the region south of the Sahara desert as a result of government investments in the health sector, according to Mollel.

"YASHODA, a 4,000-bed hospital in India, is among the biggest in the world and is operating at a very high level.  A group of highly qualified medical professionals from Tanzania visited YASHODA in May 2023 to find out what sets them apart from what we have and why people want to travel to India for medical care," the speaker stated.

Furthermore, according to Mollel, the delegation's objective was to find out what has made them global leaders in medical tourism, put what they had learned into practice, establish themselves as the epicenter of medical tourism, and welcome patients from all over the world.

"One of the successes of the visit we made to India last year is the arrival of doctors from YASHODA, which is one of the hospitals we visited with first-class quality and standards in the world and has smart doctors with a large network in the world due to their expertise," he stated.

"Global Medicare oversees the greatest medical services for people who must go overseas and for people who visit Tanzania from overseas. All of our doctors are prepared for the camp and have finished their preparations,” he stated.

As President Samia Suluhu Hassan has made significant investments in medical equipment and training local doctors by enhancing their skills through the Samia Scholarship program, he stated that the major objective is to establish Tanzania as a hub for medical tourism.
