In its unfailing quest to build a state of the art transit hub on the eastern fringes of national capital, DDA in a recent move has unveiled its most ambitious project at an investment worth Rs. 4,500cr. The construction work for the mega project, which is an East Delhi Hub, a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) project has been assigned to the National Buildings Construction Corporation. Based in Karkardooma, the hub is spread over 30 hectares or 75 acres and involves developing 1cr square feet of built-up area and both the DDA and NBCC have resolved to complete the project on scheduled time. Karkardooma will be the first area in the city to have zero-discharge individual structures with in-house water treatment facility and platinum-rated green buildings. In addition, it's also going to be the first with over 100 storeys tall building and that a part of the hub is the Signature Tower which is expected to be 300 metres high.

According to the vice-chairperson, DDA, Balvinder Kumar, the mega project involves the construction of many firsts, including execution of a TOD guidelines-based project. In fact, TOD is a futuristic model for development-pedestrian-friendly and high-density with mixed land use-and this is how DDA hopes to eventually redevelop the entire capital. The zone will be based around the existing Karkardooma Metro station and another which is set to come up in Delhi Metro's next phase with dedicated service and studio apartments for senior citizens will also be part of this project. The upcoming project is going to be the one of DDA's biggest projects, something that Delhi will be proud of housing high-rises designed with the latest technology to make them highly resilient to seismic activity and vast open spaces.
