Tesla is targeting APAC and African markets from India

Tesla is expected to commence operations in India with either the Model 3 or Model Y after clearing the homologation stage for all four car models it requested clearance for in 2021.

According to sources, the electric car behemoth intends to establish a significant export base in India, with plans to target the Asian Pacific and African markets. While the particular location has yet to be determined, insiders say Tesla is considering sites in Southern India and Gujarat.

The company's original proposal discloses lofty aspirations to build a gigafactory in India.

This cutting-edge factory is expected to have an annual manufacturing capacity of around 500,000 electric automobiles.

Tesla's growth extends beyond its manufacturing facilities. Furthermore, Tesla intends to build a comprehensive charging infrastructure across the country, solving one of the major issues for the broad adoption of electric vehicles.

Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, stated in June that the company is eager to establish a foothold in India "as soon as humanly possible."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Elon Musk met during the latter's official visit to the US, and this declaration came after their discussion.
