Ashok Leyland of India is bringing electric automobiles to Cairo

While it ships 12,000 trucks to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and other Asian nations each year, Indian automaker Ashok Leyland is now exploring the Egyptian electric vehicle market through a cooperation with El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing. The proportion of electric cars in the Egyptian automotive fleet is predicted to rise beginning in mid-2023.

This is due to a recent collaboration between the Egyptian automaker El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company and the Indian firm Ashok Leyland. The two firms, which will create a joint venture, intend to begin by extending and modernising an El Nasr facility near Cairo.

The factory should enable for the production of all-electric vehicles, vans, pickup trucks, and buses. This will allow for the growth of cleaner mobility throughout North Africa, particularly in nations where these cars will be imported.

"Egypt has a local market capable of absorbing a large number of productions to provide electric vehicles at affordable prices," says Mahmoud Esmat, Egyptian Minister of Public Sector Business.

Above all, Ashok Leyland wishes to promote on African highways its 'circuit' electric bus line, which was debuted in 2016. This car with artificial intelligence (AI), according to the Hinduja conglomerate corporation created in 1948, requires a single daily charge to go up to 120 km. In Egypt, the business led by engineer Shenu Agarwal is collaborating with other foreign automakers. Stellantis is one of them.

By 2025, the multinational firm formed by the merging of the PSA Peugeot Citroen group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will construct a facility in Egypt for the manufacturing and export of electric vehicles. The initiative, which will cost $35 million (about 651 million Egyptian pounds), will help cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Meanwhile, in collaboration with Chinese manufacturer Wolong Electric, Egyptian energy solutions provider Elsewedy Electric has commenced construction of a service centre for the commercialization of electric motors in 2022. The facility will have a test bench capable of evaluating motors up to 10 MW and 15 kV, which will be used to improve the quality of electric cars.
