Honda City regains top spot in the mid-size sedan space

Celeberating two decades presence in India, Honda's mid-size sedan City has regained the number 1 spot in 2017 overtaking its nearest rivals Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. 

 
Honda City nudged ahead of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz by 500-700 units. Honda City closed the year with approximately 62,573 units versus Maruti Suzuki Ciaz which sold approximately 62,000 units, whereas Hyundai Verna closed the year at almost half the units at around 30,000 units, as the first half of the year didn't have the new Verna. 
 
Led by strong demand for City, Honda Cars India posted a cumulative sales growth of 15% for the calendar year registering sales of 1,78,755 units, with City being the highest contributing about 35% of the total sales at 62,573 units for the full year. 
 
Yoichiro Ueno, president & CEO, Honda Cars India said 2017 was a milestone year for Honda Cars in India, as the best seller Honda City completes 2 decades of success in India. 
 
"Honda City has emerged as the highest selling mid-size sedan during 2017. I would like to thank our customers for their strong support to the model.HCIL experienced robust growth during 2017 backed by good demand for all our products across segments, especially the Honda City & WR-V. We look forward to another fruitful year ahead," he added. 
 
The company closed the December with 26% growth posting sales of of 12,642 units in December 2017 against 10,071 units in the corresponding month last year. For the April to December of FY-18, the company registered a cumulative growth of 20% selling 129,964 units during April - December in 2017, against 108,522 units in the corresponding period of April - December in 2016.
