Construction Of Multipurpose Stadium Set To Commence

Planning has begun by The Sports and Youth Welfare Department to develop a multi-purpose world class stadium in Indore soon.

The stadium was planned because the department was facing problems in conducting national and state level events in one location.

Joseph Baxla, district sports officer, Sports and Youth Welfare department said, "We tried finding land for the stadium so that we can organize many sporting events at one place,"

The department recently acquired the land owned by the district education department for the stadium at Rau.

However, the education department was reluctant to give away the land but after negotiations with the Sports and Youth Welfare department's state headquarters in Bhopal, the education department finally agreed to give the land.

"We expect the construction work to begin within two or three months once all the paperwork is done," added Baxla.

The stadium will host all major sporting activities like athletics, basketball, football, handball, boxing, and badminton.
"It will have an athletics track of 400 meters, swimming pool of 50 meters length and a multipurpose indoor hall with a hostel for girls and boys who can stay there during tournaments," Baxla said.

The Rs 15 crore complex is also likely to feature a physiotherapy center, gymnasium with advanced equipment and a player lounge for sportspersons.

The approval for the new stadium has brought cheer to sportspersons who will now have access to state-of-the-art facilities to hone their talents.

National level athletics player from the city Radhika Jain said, "The new stadium will be beneficial for state athletes as they will be able to practice and play in modern courts."
