BMW reschedules the launch of G 310R to 2018: Report

The German carmaker Bavarian Motor Works (a.k.a. BMW) has rescheduled the launch of their new upcoming bike, the G 310R.

BMW Motorrad revealed their 313cc single-cylinder roadster back in 2015, and since then this bike has been on every motorcycle enthusiast’s radar. A trade magazine has reported that the bike’s launch was initially expected to be some time in the second half of 2017; but, the launch has now been rescheduled.
BMW Motorrad made its official entry in India and launched its entire range of models, including the company’s adventure bikes ranging from the R1200 range to the six-cylinder K1600, along with the neo-retro R NineT range.
Further, the list also included the recently updated (2017) S1000 range featuring the S1000RR superbike, the tour-oriented S1000XR and the S1000R sport. But they did not include this 313cc single-cylinder roadster – the BMW G310 R.
Presently, BMW Motorrad has only four showrooms across the country. As the G 310R is meant to be a more mass-market bike compared to the company’s other motorbikes, BMW Motorrad is looking forward to expand its horizon in India by identifying more dealerships across the country to make the G 310R more widely available. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW India, was quoted as saying to Autocar India, “We need to have an adequate retail infrastructure before the G 310R becomes available here.”
Autocar India has further reported that BMW Motorrad has partnered with the TVS Group to mass produce its smallest capacity engine motorcycle in India itself. The BMW G310R has a uniquely designed 313cc single-cylinder, water-cooled 4-stroke engine with 4 valves, 2 overhead camshafts and a wet-sump lubrication. The engine churns out a maximum power of 34.5Ps at 9000rpm and a peak torque of 28.4Nm at 7500rpm.
The bike’s production is already in full swing at TVS’s Hosur plant and will be exported to the European and the US markets from India itself. BMW Motorrad has revealed that the rescheduled launch of the bike would happen in 2018, but they have not mentioned the exact date. The Apache RR 310S, TVS’s competition to BMW G 310R, will be available for sale before BMW’s bike.
The G 310GS, an adventure-tour version of the G 310R which was unveiled at EICMA 2016, will also be available for sale in India in 2018. The expected price of the G 310R would fall somewhere around the Rs 2.5 lakh range.
