Essel's Goa plant earns top quality award

Essel Propack, lamitube specialist catering to the FMCG and pharma space, added another feather to its cap with the win of the prestigious IMC Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality (RBNQA) Performance Excellence Trophy 2015 for its manufacturing unit in Goa.

Modelled on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the US, the IMC RBNQA is one of India’s highest awards for quality in the manufacturing sector.

The IMC RBNQA Trust is a joint initiative of Indian Merchants’ Chamber and House of Bajaj.

In 2012, Essel doubled its capacity at the manufacturing unit in Kundaim, Goa to 1.5 billion tubes per year at an investment of Rs 40 crore. The Goa facility makes laminated tubes for FMCG clients, including Colgate, Hindustan Unilever, Cosme Pharma, Ranbaxy, ITC, Zandu Pharma and Encube Ethicals.

“The award is recognition to the efforts of all the employees of EP Goa and the management leadership team. Winning this award reinforces our manufacturing unit’s resolve in aligning with the mission, vision and values of Essel Propack. This recognition motivates us as an organisation to not only sustain our performance but also enhance it in the years to come,” Roy Joseph, vice-president AMESA (Africa, Middle East and South Asia, including India), Essel Propack, said.

The awards, instituted in 1996, after Ramkrishna Bajaj, head of the Bajaj group of companies, give special recognition to excellence in organisations in six categories – manufacturing, service, small businesses, overseas organisations, education and health care. The selection criteria emphasises on openness and transparency in governance and ethics.

Essel Propack Goa Unit won the excellence trophy in the first year of its application.

A panel of expert judges from different fields evaluated the Goa factory on several parameters - quality of service, leadership, human resource, process management, knowledge management, strategic planning, consumer and market focus, measurement and analysis management and business results for the last three years.

Essel, part of the USD 2.4 billion Essel Group, with a turnover of over USD 350 million, is the largest global specialty packaging company. Employing over 2,600 people representing 25 different nationalities, Essel functions through 25 state-of-the-art facilities in 12 countries.
