Sabir Ali, director of KGN, said almost two tonnes of plastic waste is produced in the city every day. The volunteers of the bank collect the plastic waste. If the amount is lower, a person receives a cloth bag or facial mask in place of the plastic waste. When a large amount of plastic waste is collected, people will receive money according to their weight.
Ali has said that Rs 25 per kg is purchased with drinking water bottles, while plastic buckets, cans and cups with Rs 10 per kg are purchased. The bank also uses waste for recycling like cardboard. In the Ashapur plant, where the plastique waste is separated, the plastic waste collected on that bank is deposited. The terephthalate polyethylene bottles (PET) are pressed in a hydraulic press and collected in the form of bundles sent for further processing and recycling to other sites.
