Neenah offers specialty papers for digital printing

2016 was perhaps the year when we established that digital printing is a reality; it’s not a competition to offset, but a whole new set of technology which will create its own market, complementing offset. After the initial trial and error, as converters start using digital printing in right earnest, to maximise the potential of the technology, they are faced a whole new of other technology demands. For, digital printing is a specialised area of operation, requiring skilled manpower as well as specialised ancillary products as each digital press comes with its own requirements for inks, substrates, and other consumables.

Among these, paper remains the most neglected area. According to experts, unlike offset, in digital, best results are achieved by using digitally certified paper. This is especially true if we talk about specialised, high-end jobs using state-of-the-art machines.

Waking up to this need for digital papers, especially in the fine paper segment, several paper mills in the world are now offering their ranges of fine papers designed to run exclusively on digital presses.

One such offering is the Neenah digital papers manufactured by Neenah Paper, based in Neenah, Wisconsin in the US. The offering includes 13 brands, 29 colour options, 13 finishes and 12 weights. According to Papers Worldwide India Services, the authorised stockist and distributors of Neenah papers in India, the Neenah Digital papers came with a guarantee of performance and a promise of a free replacement or refund in case of a defect.

Vikramjeet Singh Judge, chairman, Papers Worldwide, said, “Right now, only a select few know about Neenah as a brand. However, as India progresses and customer demands rise, the awareness about Neenah and its market will rise exponentially.”

The comprehensive portfolio of Neenah’s digital paper collection expands the opportunity for short-run print solutions with a wide range of versatile, high-performing paper choices. These include textures like RAW Digital, Lineal Digital, Laid Digital, Textured Digital, Stipple Digital and Eggshell Digital as well as Super Smooth Digital, Smooth Digital, Vellum Digital, Linen Digital and Felt Digital.

Neenah digital papers are suitable for direct mail, brochures, hang tags, gift tags, packaging applications, and gift card carriers.

Neenah has been named as a member of the HP Indigo Preferred Media Partner Program.

According to Judge, Neenah’s proprietary universal digital finishes provides exceptional print fidelity, ink holdout, and hassle-free printing. They are recommended for most high production digital printing press such as HP Indigo, Xerox iGen, Kodak NexPress or Canon imagePress.

Judge said the range of Neenah Papers available in India includes the classic crest series, the Coronado series, Eames and Esse.

To popularise the paper, Papers Worldwide is now planning a roadshow. Judge said it’s important to educate the printers and help them move up the value chain because when printers move up the value chain, the printing industry prospers.
