The cutting of red ribbon by senior journalist Shekhar Gupta along with Jitesh Khosla, Assam state chief secretary marked the opening of TCPL’s Guwahati plant on 29 January 2015.

There were more than 150 delegates including TCPL’s clients, vendors, and team members. Addressing the audience, K K Kanoria, whole-time director, TCPL, spoke about packaging major’s journey. The company has production plants located in four locations − Haridwar, Silvassa, Goa and now in Guwahati. It is in its 25th year of operations.

Akshay Kanoria, grandson of KK Kanoria, who played a pivotal role in setting up the Guwahati plant, said, “We were allotted this land in late 2013 and we started development of this site in April 2014. In spite of terrible monsoon, we completed the facility in nine months, which I think is a record for us.  This factory is equipped with the best machines the money can buy to service our customers and fulfil our quality commitments.”

Gupta spoke about his early days in Guwahati during the insurgency in North East while Khosla shed light on recent developments in the region which has made Guwahati the gateway to the North East.

The ceremony was followed by a walk-through the eight-acre factory, during which it was clear that the factory is poised to produce all types of folding cartons.

Saket Kanoria, speaking to PrintWeek India, highlighted the energy conservation aspects of the factory.

The roof has intermediate transparent plastic sheets in order to maximise the daylight utilisation. And all the lighting is powered by LED bulbs.

“We have invested in new humidification system and imported air conditioners to keep the power consumption at minimum levels.”

According to Kanoria, the humidification system comes with completely dust controlled environment. “We are blowing in less humid air, so the air will be cool and at the same time the material will not be affected. Also, it’s low power intensive as it consumes 2.5 times lesser power than ordinary humidifiers. Also, the air conditioners are imported and equipped with screw chillers, which are very energy efficient,” he added.

“We are excited to be here. The new plant will cater to packaging buyers in Kolkata and North East and thus enable us to extend our coverage across India. Also, we will now be able target Bangladesh and Myanmar,” concluded Kanoria.

The inauguration was attended by some of TCPL’s clients including Emami, Godrej and Unilever.
