Delhi health minister Dr A.K. Walia on Wednesday said that he would shortly bring in 100 dialysis machines for kidney patients and would also make available free dialysis programmes.

 

Inaugurating the 19th MTNL Perfect Health Mela, Dr Walia, said, “100 dialysis machines would be made available soon for the treatment of underprivileged patients.” This will be done for patients who cannot afford expensive liver dialysis and its treatment, he added.

Addressing dengue-related issues, AK Walia requested people to take preventive measures so as to avoid mosquito breeding. He asked people to keep a check on their environment and not let water accumulate for a long duration. Mr Walia said that water tanks must be kept clean and covered to avoid mosquito breeding. Also, old tyres, bottles and containers should be discarded immediately so as to prevent accumulation of water in them.

On Wednesday, 39 fresh cases of dengue were reported, taking the total number of people detected with the disease this season to 1,288. This includes 11 cases that originated from outside the city.

Mr Walia further added that gutka has been banned in Delhi, in order to bring down health problems generated by chewing gutka.
