Dr Randeep Guleria takes charge as Director of AIIMS Delhi

Dr Randeep Guleria, professor and head, department of pulmonary medicine and sleep disorders, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Friday took charge as director of the medical institute.

 
Dr Guleria, who was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2015 by the President of India, will succeed Dr M C Misra, who retired as director of AIIMS, New Delhi in January after serving for over three years.
 
Dr Guleria, a renowned pulmonologist and the first Indian to get a Doctorate of Medicine in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, was appointed as the new director of AIIMS, New Delhi on Friday by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for five years or till he attains the age of 65 years or until further orders.
 
Dr Guleria joined AIIMS in 1992 as assistant professor in the department of medicine. He is credited with establishing India’s first centre for pulmonary medicine and sleep disorder at AIIMS in 2011. He was the personal physician to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 1998 to 2004
