Rising Kewda Oil Demand a Blessing for 200,000 People in Ganjam, Odisha, According to "Smells like a Fortune"

Families in the waterfront pockets of Odisha's Ganjam locale have been barely getting by planning sweet-smelling kewda oil for a really long time, and a new development popular has placed a grin on their countenances.
 
The blossom is collected from around 5,000 hectares in the locale. Its oil is created in Ganjam, Chatrapur, Chikiti and Rangeilunda blocks of the locale, said Narendra Sahoo, a kewda bloom oil creator from Chikiti.
 
It serves as the main source of income for the over 200,000 residents who reside in the 220 communities in the region. According to Dandapani Sahoo, a kewda bloom gatherer in Chatrapur, the ranchers and gatherers benefit from the oil manufacturers in Ganjam buying their flowers from them from June to September, which is the harvesting season. Since the time of our ancestors, growing kewda blooms has been a source of employment.
 
Kewda oil producers offer to Kannauj, Agra, Kanpur, New Delhi, Mumbai and different spots at around Rs 5 lakh a liter, said VV Rama Rao, official in-control and senior researcher of Part and Flavour Improvement Centre (FFDC) expansion unit at Berhampore, Ganjam under the Association Service of Miniature, Little and Medium Endeavours. "Consistently, kewda ranchers, blossom merchants and oil creators acquire around Rs 50-60 crore."
 
The cost per liter of kewda oil was Rs 4.5 lakh last year, said Sudrashan Patra, secretary of Shree Sidha Bhabani Kewda ranchers’affiliation, Mahasahipentha town in Rangeilunda block. "Rising kewda oil costs have placed a grin on the essences of ranchers and oil producers."
