Markfed Chairman Amarjit Singh Samra yesterday said they would increase exports of ready-to-eat (RTE) products to Canada. He said this while welcoming Rameshwar Singh Sangha, Member of Parliament, Canada, who visited the Markfed head office here on Monday.
Arshdeep Singh Thind, Managing Director, Markfed, said the company had been exporting Sohna RTE products and basmati rice to Canada since 1988. Canada is the second largest buyer of ‘Sohna’ RTE products, basmati rice, mustard oil and whole wheat atta after the Middle-East.
During 2016-17, Markfed exported 17 containers of RTE products and during 2017-18, the company intends to export 22 containers of RTE products besides 10-12 containers of whole wheat atta to Canada.
Canada is the largest producer of wheat in the world and it is for the first time that a government organisation has secured an order to supply 12 containers of whole wheat atta to Canada.
Sangha showed keen interest in Markfed products and said the company should supply its products not only to Punjabi stores but also to other Indian stores in Canada.
