A 30-km long road from Jolaibari, Tripura to Bangladesh border will be built and the Assam-Agartala national highway double laning will be completed from Churaibari to Sabroom.

Announcement of the construction of two new national highways to connect Tripura with Assam. came from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, as a part of Centre’s vision to improve infrastructure in the North-East region of the country. Construction of These highways would be under ‘Bharatmala’, with an expenditure of Rs. 801.79 crore would commence by December 2015.

Indian government has recently signed an agreement in Bhutan for road connectivity among four SAARC nations i.e. India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. Government is also trying to connect Thailand through Myanmar.

Including in the Brahmaputra, the Ganga and the Mahanadi, inland waterways would be developed in 101 rivers across India, Mr Gadkari further added.
