On multiple fronts, the world looks to India. It has resulted in a significant expansion of renewable energy in recent years. For example, India's efforts to promote LED lighting have been a major success. This has resulted in significant reductions in power use, greenhouse gas emissions, and household bills.
Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), expressed these views in an exclusive interview with IANS on Saturday, a day ahead of the resumed fifth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) in Nairobi, Kenya, which will bring together representatives from 193 UN Member States, business leaders, civil society, and environmentalists.
The session has been extended to March 2nd, with countries aiming to find solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems.
