Increasing diplomatic and political outreach to the African continent is the first principle emphasis of the president’s visits. This increasing number of high-level visits from both sides is paramount for the mutual benefits of the countries.
It’s well known that President Ram Nath Kovind has a special affinity for Africa. Between 2017 and 2018 president visited four East African countries – Ethiopia, Djibouti, Mauritius, and Madagascar. In the same term, he also visited many resource-rich west African countries to create and maintain strategic bilateral trades.
India has a high demand for oil, gas and other natural resources, western Africa has abundant of it but lacks certain resources to fulfill their needs. Having bilateral trade with a mutual benefit to both the country is a great boost towards India's export and import division.
India also started to engage with African countries with the hosting of Regional Economic Conclaves. The first Regional Conclave on India-West Africa Project Partnership was held in October 2018 hosted in Abuja, Nigeria. The Conclave was jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), MEA, Export-Import Bank and ECOWAS (Economic Commission of West African States). Similar conclaves were also proposed in the East African countries to tighten the mutual relations.
During the visit of Rajnath Singh, India signed two agreements on sharing White Shipping information, and the cooperation in the field of Hydrography. India gave 44 SUVs and two Fast Interceptor Boats to Mozambican authorities to enhance the security.
