Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently launched the 900 km-long Chardham Highway Development Program in Dehradun entailing a staggering investment of Rs. 12,000cr. The mega highway project has been aimed at ensuring trouble-free and all weather road network round-the-year in the hill state. The project in question will enable hassle-free travel and transport facilities to religiois shrines Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri and also to the famous Sikh shrine Hemkund Saheb, Transport Minister, Gadkari said, adding that the project includes construction of more than 25 tunnels and viaducts on Himalayan terrain. It may be recalled that the connectivity to Chardham shrines was disrupted after the 2014 devastating ravaging floods in Uttarakhand and adjoining regions.
