NHAI awards Rs 328 cr highway contract in HP to NKC Project

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) today said it has awarded a Rs 328 crore contract in Himachal Pradesh to NKC Project Ltd.

"NHAI has issued Letter of Award (LOA) for development of national highway section (4-Laning of Takoli - Kullu section) in the state of Himachal Pradesh under phase IV - B of National Highways Development Projects (NHDP)," NHAI said in a statement.
 
The project pertains to widening of the 29-km stretch on NH 21 at a cost of Rs 328 crore. 
 
The NH-21 traverses through Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and further connects Leh in Jammu and Kashmir. 
 
It is an important link between Chandigarh and Manali -- two major tourist spots in Himachal Pradesh. 
 
"Widening of the Takoli - Kullu section would achieve smooth and safe traffic flow, substantial economic gain in terms of reduced Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) and reduced travel time," the statement said. 
 
The project will have two major bridges, five minor bridges, two Vehicular Underpasses, one Vehicular Overpass and adequate road safety features. 
 
The project would be executed on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) mode and the scheduled time of completion is 30 months from the date of commencement.
