As a part of its strategic plan, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) decided to build vital road link connecting Uri sector in North Kashmir to Punch in Jammu area. In this connection, the nodal border road building agency is seeking bids for preparation of the necessary Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the mega project. In view of the importance of both these places from country’s security angle, the government is considering the project as a priority venture. The bids received for DPR preparation are under evaluation, according to documents in possession of Greater Kashmir. Three bids have been received on due date and time and are under evaluation, General Manager of NHIDCL, Shaliendra Kumar Yadav said, adding that the process for appointing a consultant for preparation of the DPR has already started. The consultant would study feasibility of the project and suggest options for constructing the road. On this score, it would be first seen whether the proposal is feasible, given that part of the old alignment of the road falls in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and it is being evaluated whether a new alignment in this side of Kashmir is possible to connect Uri and Poonch sectors, he claimed.
