Railways speeds up special status projects

In order to make rail tracks accident-free, the railway ministry has granted 'special project' status to two new rail line between Wardha and Nanded districts via Yavatmal with a length of 284 kms and also to the Ahmednagar-Beed-Parli-Vaijnath of 261 kms., said official sources, adding that the local administrations of both these areas have been directed to start land acquisition in their respective jurisdiction as quickly as possible.

A special status has been granted on the basis of a request made by Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis to Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu. With the new sanction in hand, the acquisition of land for the railway line can be expedited and immediate possession of the land can be achieved and the direct land purchase policy of the state government would enable the farmers to get competitive price for their land. The Railways can save funds in avoiding contesting disputes that may arise due to the old land acquisition policy. As a matter of fact, over 14 kms of track can be laid immediately out of 180 km, for which the land has already been acquired.
