Injecting a major booster to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) under the 'Make in India' campaign, the central government has cleared a staggering sum worth Rs. 2,025cr to build world class infra and allied facilities and that the entire project will be commissioned in the next two years, said sources claiming that three of the four packages, comprising infra projects, have been finalized wherein two projects—the Rs. 468cr JNPT SEZ within the port area and the road connectivity project wherein, NHAI is the majority stakeholder with 66% equity in the Mumbai JNPT Port Road Company Ltd executing the road infra project on which the construction work is all set to start very shortly.

The tender bids for expansion of NH 4B, SH 54, and Amre Marg along with two interchangers at Karal Phata and Gavan Phata have been grouped into four packages. Once these projects are completed, the south and south-west of the city will get better roads and that the vehicular movement of containers will be at ease. The two grade separators at Karal Phata and Gavan Phata will speed up lane interchange and connect the national and state highways. The upcoming Ulwe node will benefit from the Gavan Phata interchange and that the Karal Phata interchanger will be the new highway to upcoming Dronagiri node and that a flyover at Kille junction will provide a smooth passage for container vehicles, besides facilitating other road users, they claimed.
