Asia's largest Solar-BESS project will be funded by Anil Ambani's Reliance Power

Reliance NU Suntech, a subsidiary of Anil Ambani's Reliance Power, announced in an exchange filing that it had inked a historic 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), marking a significant step forward in India's green energy aspirations. According to the deal, it will be Asia's largest single-location solar-BESS project to date, supplying 930 MW of solar electricity combined with a 465 MW/1,860 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

Up to Rs 10,000 crore will be invested in the project's development over the course of the following 24 months. At a set rate of Rs 3.53 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), the power will be supplied.

In terms of scope and strategic importance, the agreement ranks among India's most important long-term clean energy agreements. Reliance NU Suntech will install more than 1,700 MWp of solar generation capacity to match the contracted 930 MW capacity. To guarantee grid stability and dependability, innovative energy storage devices will be integrated.

The PPA comes after Reliance NU Suntech secured 465 MW/1,860 MWh of BESS and 930 MW of solar capacity as the highest bidder in SECI's Tranche XVII auction in December 2024. Five significant energy companies participated in the competitive bidding procedure, competing ying for 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh of BESS capacity and 2,000 MW of solar.

Reliance Power has already completed the bidding, award, and contract signing process in five months, submitting Rs 378 crore Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) to SECI. According to the corporation, this quick execution demonstrates its operational flexibility and extensive experience in overseeing major energy projects.

In a statement, the company stated, "This is a strategic achievement for us and a strong confirmation of our commitment to India's clean energy transition." It also added that the project will help meet India's renewable energy targets and improve energy storage infrastructure.
