An important step towards India's ambitious goal of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 has been taken with the successful acquisition of a 2 MWp solar power plant project for a major FMCG company's facility in Guwahati, Assam, by Energy Solutions, a division of the Godrej Enterprises Group. Godrej has dedicated itself to accelerating India's clean energy transformation through innovative and customized renewable solutions, aligning this landmark project with the country's vision for energy independence and sustainable industrial growth. With Godrej being one of India's most responsible brands, this is the first major solar EPC project Godrej has undertaken in the FMCG sector, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 98.4 tons annually. It is a testament to Godrej's growing capabilities in providing customized renewable energy solutions across multiple sectors.
The cutting-edge solar plant will drastically lower the facility's carbon footprint by producing about 2.4 million kilowatt-hours of green energy yearly. With the solar installation expected to last for at least 25 years and produce 57,000 MWh of renewable energy over that period, the facility would now save about ₹1.4 crore in energy costs annually.
“India's industrial sector is at an important moment in its energy transition, with businesses realising that integrating renewable energy is both economically and environmentally beneficial. This solar installation represents a milestone in our renewable energy portfolio,” said Raghavendra Mirji, Executive Vice President & Business Head, Energy Solutions, a division of Godrej Enterprises. “As one of the most reputable brands in India, Godrej is dedicated to promoting the country's energy transition by offering scalable, effective solar solutions for a variety of industries. This project is a perfect example of how industrial facilities may increase operating efficiency and adopt sustainable energy.” He added
The project is strategically in line with Assam's progressive renewable energy strategy, which prioritises solar power and seeks to build 2,000 MW of renewable energy producing capacity by 2025. This ambitious regional goal allots 500 MW to rooftop and distributed solar systems and 1,500 MW to utility-scale solar projects. Godrej's multi-format installation helps the private sector take the lead in accomplishing these goals.
In India, Godrej has worked on several innovative initiatives. The company's 12.5 MWp rooftop solar project, the first in Madhya Pradesh and the third largest in India, was put into service in the solar segment. In Dhule, Maharashtra, the company has put into service a 25MW ground-mounted solar plant that is anticipated to produce 45 million units a year. This project demonstrates Godrej's dedication to promoting environmental stewardship and helping Maharashtra achieve its renewable energy goals.
