According to a state minister, Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh is now home to the biggest floating solar installation in central and north India, producing 90 MW of electricity. State Minister for Renewable Energy Rakesh Shukla said in a statement that the Rs 646 crore Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project was put into service on Thursday 08 August 2024.

Minister Rakesh Shukla, stated this project which was created under the union ministry of renewable energy, is the largest floating solar project in central and northern India as well as the largest solar park in the country.

With the project's commissioning, SJVN's total installed capacity grew to 2466.50 MW. According to renewable energy minister Rakesh Shukla, the project is expected to produce 196.5 million units of power in the first year and 4,629.3 million units over the course of 25 years.
