Andhra's Largest Floating Solar Power Project to Come Up in Vizag

The largest floating solar power project in the state will be commissioned in Visakhapatnam by the end of this fiscal. Once complete, the project will be 1 of the largest renewable energy installations in the country.

NTPC Limited’s Simhadri super thermal power plant is executing the project at a cost of Rs 110 crore. The project was started in July 2019 and was supposed to be completed in 15 months but was hampered with the Covid-19 outbreak. Work was resumed recently.

Power evacuation from this plant will be sent to the main plant through a 33kv transmission network. “We will be able to commission the floating solar power project in the next 2 months. With this our plant capacity will be augmented to 2025MW. It is the state’s largest floating solar power plant laid over 155 acres of fresh water,” said Diwakar Kaushik, group general manager, NTPC Simhadri.

Speaking to TOI, Diwakar Kaushik said the plant has its own reservoir with water collected from Yeleru canal. Once completed, the city will have its 2nd floating solar plant after the mini project over Mehadrigedda reservoir, owned by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.
