Wind turbine maker Gamesa announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement for 300 mw wind power with the independent power producer Greenko. The first phase of 160 mw is underway and the project may be commissioned by June. According to the agreement, during this period, Gamesa will supply, erect and commission 80 of the company’s G97-2.0 mw wind turbines at Jaisalmer region in Rajasthan and Basavanabagewadi in Karnataka.

The second phase of 140 mw is expected to be secured by April 2015 wherein Gamesa will supply 70 of its G97-2.0 mw turbines at the identified sites in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. This project is to be commissioned by September 2015.

Ramesh Kymal, chairman and managing director of Gamesa India, said, “We are encouraged by the continued trust reposed by the Greenko group in us as their chosen partners in growth. Gamesa has a combined portfolio of 600 mw with Greenko till date and the latest agreement further cements the partnership between the organisations, he added. In the earlier signed 300 mw contract, Greenko already has 160 mw of operational wind capacity in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and the remaining capacity is under various stages of development.

Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, chief executive officer and managing director of Greenko, said: “In our persuasion towards a sustainable low cost energy generation, we find Gamesa with its G97 -2.0 mw, a good partner for adding capacities to our utility scale wind farm under implementation. The partnership with Gamesa will enhance our shareholder value and accelerates near term business plan.”

Greenko is an independent power producer in the country listed in the London Stock Exchange. Its operational portfolio has increased 45.6 per cent to 715 mw since March 2014, with another 590 mw under construction, and a further 1,350 mw in active development.
