Union Power Minister Manohar Lal stated on Saturday that renewable energy, grid modernization, energy storage, and institutional capacity have become important foundations of collaboration between India and Africa. Speaking at the India-Africa Strategic Partnership Meet in the nation's capital, the minister stated that inclusive, egalitarian, and future-ready development is a shared objective between Africa and India, which together account for about one-third of the world's population.
In addition to highlighting the One Sun, One World, One Grid plan as a revolutionary route for global energy connectivity, he emphasized that access to dependable and reasonably priced power is essential to economic progress, dignity, and opportunity.
Using programs like the International Solar Alliance, the minister reiterated India's dedication to enhancing cooperation with African countries. As an illustration of how technical know-how, creative funding, and public-private partnerships can provide resilient infrastructure, he also mentioned the collaboration between Africa50 and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, which includes the Kenya transmission project. Lal stated that India is still a reliable partner in promoting Africa's energy transition, characterizing the relationship as transformational rather than transactional.
The Meeting reaffirmed that both parties will intensify their involvement in the development of linked grid systems, energy storage and flexibility solutions, capacity building through institutional strengthening, and the spread of renewable energy.
Alain Ebobisse, CEO of Africa50, stated that rather than help, Africa is looking for investments that have both effect and returns. He pointed out that through integrated planning frameworks, the continent is concentrating on creating bankable projects, building out transmission infrastructure, and raising private finance.
