Two hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh with an investment of Rs 3,689 crore were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed reporters during the Cabinet meeting that the CCEA has approved an investment of Rs 1,750 crore for the development of the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project and Rs 1,939 crore for the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh's Shi Yomi District.
According to the minister, the electricity produced by the two projects will help balance the national grid and strengthen Arunachal Pradesh's power supply position.
North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh would form joint venture firms to carry out the projects.
The minister further stated that in addition to Central Financial Assistance of Rs 120.43 crore towards the state's equity share, the central government will provide Rs 77.37 crore as budgetary support for the construction of roads, bridges, and related transmission lines under enabling infrastructure for the Tato-I project.
Along with Rs. 130.43 crore in Central Financial Assistance for the State's equity share, the Government of India would provide Rs. 127.28 crore in budgetary support for the Heo project, which will be used to build roads, bridges, and related transmission lines under enabling infrastructure, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated.
12 percent free power and an additional 1 percent for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF) would benefit the state alongside to the region's socioeconomic growth and major infrastructure upgrades.
The district will also gain from the construction of essential structures, which will be funded by Rs 15 crore in project funds. This includes hospitals, schools, marketplaces, playgrounds, and vocational training facilities like ITIs.
