In order to install 1,200 MWh of standalone battery energy storage systems for on-demand use during peak and off-peak hours, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. (UPPCL) has requested proposals from developers. With the selected developers, it will sign a battery energy storage purchase agreement.
A standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) with a storage capacity of 1,200 MWh (300 MW x 4 hours) has been requested by Uttar Pradesh Power Corp. Ltd. (UPPCL) for construction in Uttar Pradesh. When needed, both during peak and off-peak hours, the winning developer will make the energy storage facility available to UPPCL for "on demand" charging and discharging. All forms of energy, including traditional energy sources, can be used to charge the BESS.
Competitive bidding with a tariff system will be used to choose the developers. Any capacity, in multiples of 50 MW, from 50 MW to 300 MW, is open for bids.
It is intended that the BESS will be installed at designated load centers in Uttar Pradesh by the selected developers in accordance with a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) agreement. It is expected that a maximum of 100 megawatts of storage capacity will be located as close as possible to the 132 kV substation in the Hathras district, and 200 megawatts will be located at the 765 kV substation in the Unnao district.
Upon the successful developers' agreement, UPPCL will execute a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA). 18 months after the BESPA is signed, the entire project capacity must be put into service.
