The project was developed on a build-own-operate-maintain basis for a duration of 35 years after IndiGrid was awarded the contract in December 2021 under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) system.

 

According to IndiGrid, "KTL consists of 10 Bays with an 18-kilometer LILO multicircuit line, as well as one substation with two 500 MVA capacities and 400/220 kV voltages."

 

The project will make it possible to evacuate 1 GW of electricity from Maharashtra's Dharashiv region's renewable energy installations. According to the corporation, it will be crucial in fortifying the state's transmission infrastructure by enhancing grid availability for evacuation and integrating renewable energy. Additionally, IndiGrid was given augmentation work in the KTL project in November 2022 to facilitate the evacuation of an extra 1 GW of renewable energy. 

 

Five further Greenfield projects on a TBCB basis in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, New Delhi, and Maharashtra have been awarded to the business.

 

The first Infrastructure Investment Trust in the Indian power industry is called IndiGrid. It owns 37 power projects, including 13 substations with a transformation capacity of 17,550 MVA, 46 transmission lines more than 8,468 ckm, and 855 MW AC (or around 1.1 GWp) of solar producing capacity. The assets under management at IndiGrid total more than INR 282 billion ($3.4 billion). KKR is the sole owner of IndiGrid's investment manager.
