According to Mr. Bishwadip Dey, India's High Commissioner to Tanzania, the two countries' bilateral economic ties are "excellent" and are progressively improving for Tanzania.
During the weekend's premiere of the Mahindra Scorpio, a new SUV made in India, Mr. Dey spoke in Dar es Salaam and stated that commerce between the two nations has grown from 7.9 billion US dollars in the 2023–2024 fiscal year to 8.6 billion US dollars at present.
He added that Tanzania is currently India's second-largest trading partner in Africa, demonstrating that trade between the two countries is expanding at a highly balanced rate and, crucially, in Tanzania's favor.
According to him, the introduction of the Mahindra Scorpio, one of the most well-liked car models in India, is another indication of the two nations' growing economic ties.
"An additional element of our countries' commercial ties is the launch of the new Mahindra Scorpio in Tanzania," he said.
"We appreciate the arrival of Indian technology and innovation that is applicable to Africa, particularly Tanzania."
According to the High Commissioner, India also helps Tanzania improve its human resources by providing about 1,000 scholarships annually for advanced training and further study.
Since starting to import Mahindra automobiles more than a year ago, the company has sold 150 of them, according to Mr. Mehboob Karmal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GF Automobile Company.
He said that the move will save expenses and generate over 80 employment for Tanzanians. "Next year, we plan to introduce electric vehicles starting in January and we also aim to begin assembling Mahindra vehicles locally," he disclosed.
