In the next five years, India would have the biggest vehicle sector, according to the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways.
At the NDTV car Conclave 2024, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari predicted that the Indian car industry would reach its peak within the next five years. The minister's remarks were made during a conversation about the car industry's future.
According to the Union Minister, switching to electric vehicles from fossil fuel-powered ones will be financially feasible. Additionally, it will enable India to boost business and exports while creating more jobs. He continued, "I am confident that within five years, our Indian automobile industry will be number one in the world." He asserted that we have enough raw materials, labor, and other resources to help India reach its objective.
The Union Minister also discussed a new plan that would be implemented nationwide for driving centers and vehicle fitness facilities. The union minister declared, "I am going to sign a document for a combination of fitness center and driver training center." He continued, "We are launching a new scheme for this initiative, which will be officially announced tomorrow." He added that there will be ten to twenty driver training facilities and four to five fitness centers in each district of the nation.
The goal of the fitness center concept is to make car scrapping commercially viable. Additionally, these centers' certificates will be used in the automobile scrapping procedure. However, the scheme's specifics have not yet been decided.
The current Vehicle Scrapping Policy in the country, which was implemented in 2021, intends to remove obsolete and inoperable vehicles off Indian roadways. Its purpose is to reduce pollution and promote cleaner ways of transportation. In a larger sense, the strategy is expected to improve environmental sustainability and increase the overall efficiency of the automotive sector.
