Establishing an 80,000 square foot facility in the United Arab Emirates to refurbish and recycle lithium batteries is the project's main goal. The plant will recycle 3,000 tons of lithium-ion batteries a year and convert 15 megawatt hours of battery capacity into environmentally friendly Energy Storage Systems (ESS) every year. This is anticipated to cover over 80% of the current anticipated demands for managing EV batteries.

 

According to the company, this Joint Development Framework Agreement is a significant step toward sustainability since it expedites the country's shift to clean resources, materials, and technologies and reflects the UAE's responsibility as an energy supplier. The development is in line with the UAE's COP28 commitments, the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, and the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031.

 

The MoEI launched the "Global EV Market" transformational project earlier this year with the goal of making the UAE a global market for electric vehicles and raising the percentage of EVs on the road to 50% of all vehicles by 2050, in accordance with the National Electric Vehicles Policy. According to a survey conducted in 2023, 70% of UAE respondents were thinking about switching to electric

The project will offer local automakers and dealers a sustainable, environmentally friendly way to dispose of EV batteries when their useful lives are coming to an end, in light of the significant increase in the number of EVs that we anticipate. It will assist in addressing the logistical and environmental issues associated with damaged or expired EV batteries.
