Renault Nissan signs agreement with Kamarajar Port for car exports

Renault Nissan says it has secured a deal with Kamarajar Port Ltd to export automobiles built in Chennai by Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd. The cars manufactured at the Chennai factory would be shipped to the alliance's regional and worldwide destinations.

The deal strengthens the already-existing relationship between the Renault Nissan Alliance and Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL) and will make it easier for automobiles to be exported in the future through KPL, the alliance said in a statement.

It was signed by Nissan Motor India President Frank Torres and KPL Chairman and Managing Director Sunil Paliwal in the presence of Renault India Operations Country CEO and Managing Director Venkatram Mamillapalle and Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) Managing Director Keerthi Prakash.

"Chennai is an important export hub for us and that from the beginning we have adhered to a 'Make in India, Make for the World' philosophy to serve markets throughout the world," said Torres of Nissan Motor.

Building on the 10 lakh automobiles shipped milestone from 2022, the alliance continues to add additional export destinations for vehicles produced at the Oragadam facility (in Chennai).

"The worldwide Renault Nissan Alliance has revealed a new long-term strategy for India, including an increase in production and R&D efforts, the introduction of electric vehicles, and a shift to carbon-neutral manufacturing. We will be able to significantly strengthen our exports from India thanks to this agreement," Torres continued.

KPL's Paliwal stated, "This alliance partnership presents Kamarajar Port with an exciting opportunity to further contribute to India's growth story through the positive effects of automotive exports."

The Chennai facility serves both the local and international markets, and it has produced over 24 million Renault and Nissan automobiles, with vehicles sold to 108 countries.

According to the statement, Renault and Nissan have already contributed USD 1.8 billion to the Indian economy and given over 70,000 people possibilities for direct and indirect employment and skill development.
