Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest automotive maker, has struck a deal with Chennai-based Kamarajar Port Limited to export 20,000 passenger vehicles to Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, ASEAN, Oceania, and the SAARC area, according to a company release. With this, Kamarajar Port has become the fourth port, following Mumbai Port, Mundra Port, and Pipavav Port, that the automotive maker would use for worldwide vehicle exports.
"Maruti Suzuki is committed to the Government of India's 'Make in India' programme. Our increasing export activities demonstrate our dedication to providing our global clients with dependable, high-quality, technologically sophisticated vehicles. The launch of exports from the Kamarajar Port will allow us to access a larger consumer base. This plan would also assist to decongest the Mumbai Port, Mundra Port, and Pipavav Port, which are currently utilised by the Company to export automobiles," says Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and chief executive officer of Maruti Suzuki India.
The Kamarajar port will also be utilised for pre-delivery inspection and transportation of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara units built at Toyota Kirloskar Motors Bidadi in Karnataka.

Kamarajar Port, India's 12th major port, can accommodate 14,000 automobiles. According to the firm, all automobiles are tested and cleaned before being uploaded for transportation.
Maruti Suzuki shipped over 2.38 lakh units to over 100 countries in fiscal 2021-22. This is the company's highest-ever export.
