The recent notification from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) mandating the usage of new tyres conforming with the new regulations from October has been welcomed by home-grown international tyre company Apollo Tyres.
New standards for tyres intended for passenger cars, commercial vehicles (CVs), heavy trucks, and buses were recently released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) as part of the Central Motor Vehicles (Tenth Amendment) Rules, 2022.
According to the announcement, new tyres intended for the aforementioned cars must meet newly established specifications for wet grip, rolling resistance, and rolling sound emissions.
"We warmly appreciate the MoRTH tyre notice, which will be helpful to users. Customers will be able to make educated purchase decisions about important performance factors when purchasing new tyres once the Automotive Industry Standards (AIS 142:2019) go into effect, together with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency's (BEE) voluntary phase of star labelling," said Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA), Apollo Tyres.
"The government's restrictions are pushing the whole automobile sector to catch up with developed markets, boosting the export attractiveness and potential of Indian vehicles. Although there are certain capacity shortages, the nation's testing infrastructure, which is necessary to put these standards into practise, has also largely caught up," he added.
According to the company, its experience in providing tyres with label values (highlighting fuel efficiency, safety, and noise performance of tyres) in Europe ensures that it is better prepared to incorporate these standards in India and offer high performance, technology leading products to Indian customers.
