Continental opens electronic braking system manufacturing facility in Manesar

NEW DELHI: Auto component manufacturer Continental Automotive today inaugurated an electronic braking system manufacturing facility for four-wheelers in Manesar, Haryana.

Felix Bietenbeck, Head of Business Unit Vehicle Dynamics Division, Chassis & Safety Continental AG said, “We have installed capacity of 600,000 units per annum. We are going to invest to double capacity to 1.2 million units in 2017-18.” Bietenbeck declined to disclose the investment the company has made in India.
 
While the capacity expansion will be undertaken to meet requirement of four-wheeler manufacturers, discussions are also underway to enhance capacity for two-wheeler systems.
 
“As much as 105 of road fatalities occur in India. And 30 per cent of the deaths occur due to two-wheeler accidents. India is now proactively taking measures to up the safety quotient of vehicles, demand is expected to be strong”, added Bietenbeck.
 
Claude d’Gama Rose, Managing Director, Continental Automotive Components India informed that India is an important market for Continental AG. Apart from manufacturing facilities, the company also has a Technical Centre in Bengaluru, which supports research & development (R&D) projects across the globe.
 
Continental currently operates nine facilities in India – of these five are automotive and four are rubber plants. The Technical Centre has around 2000 engineers.
