Ensuring top-class connectivity to the hill state, Northern Railway has decided to build Rs. 458-cr rail line and allied rail network ensuring a convenient journey for pilgrims and other travelers to Char Dham Yadra. To complete the project, the department of the railway infrastructure in Uttarakhand increased funds from Rs. 187-cr to Rs. 458-cr, a 124% upward over past allocations, said an official spokesperson, adding that these funds would be spent on doubling railway lines, increasing loop length and electrification. The work of doubling of railway lines from Dehradun to Haridwar was in progress and would be completed by 2017 and the work of loop line construction going on and the Railways also working towards 18 coach train's entry till Raiwala, which would be extended to Harrawala. About the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line, the Railways had received the approval for the work under the phase-1 of the project till the Chandrabhaga River and the phase-II will begin after the completion of the work under the phase-1, he claimed.
