NEW DELHI: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Tuesday said its scooter model Activa has crossed 1-crore sales mark.
Honda Activa, which comes with various features including four-stroke engine and gearless transmission, made its debut in the domestic market in 2001.
HMSI president and CEO Keita Muramatsu said the achievement is significant since Activa has gained the trust of 1 crore happy families in India.
"From reactivating the scooter segment in India in 2001 to leading the scooterization of industry today, Honda's iconic Activa has changed the way Indians ride to fulfil their dreams," he added.
HMSI senior vice-president, sales and marketing, Yadvinder Singh Guleria said: "A decade ago, who would have bet that a scooter would once again be the largest selling two-wheeler in India? But today, Activa has broken the glass ceiling."
Honda had sold 55,000 units of Activa in the first year of its launch (2001-02). Last fiscal, the company sold over 21 lakh units in the domestic market.
