The first consignment of Tripura’s ‘Queen Pineapples’ was flagged off by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to Dubai this Sunday. The shipment weighing 1 ton was delivered via New Delhi on a Spice Jet aircraft.
The government has reached an agreement to dispatch one ton of pineapples to Dubai on a weekly basis, boosting the trade relations between both the countries.
Speaking at the function, Mr Deb said there are plans to export consignments of pineapples to various countries. He spoke about the potential of the region further stating, “Tripura could export at least 200 metric tons of queen’s pineapple variety in the next three months especially as the prices of the crop shooting up to Rs 20 per kg”.
Adding on, he spoke about the dream to double the farmer’s income, stating that this is a big leap in lieu of the same thought. He urged farmers in the state to cultivate pineapples, jackfruits and bamboo, to facilitate and improve their finances.
