LED Street Lights Will Brighten Up Bihar Municipal Bodies

The State of Bihar is set to see a new light of the day with conventional bulbs used for street lighting soon giving way for LEDs. Within a period of two years LED street lights will brighten up Bihar municipal bodies. Sushil Kumar Modi, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar announced yesterday that the municipal bodies of Bihar will be trading the old style bulbs with the energy and cost efficient LED lights. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard has been signed between Bihar Urban Development and Housing Department and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), which has been nominated to execute the project in the state.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that, “All the street lights being illuminated by traditional bulbs in municipal bodies – municipal corporations, councils and panchayats, will be replaced with LED bulbs under ‘Street Lighting National Programme’.” The programme would help save electricity bill ‘worth several crores of rupees’ in all the municipal bodies’ areas in the state of Bhiar, he said, adding, the the scheme will be implemented in a phase-wise manner across the state.

Central Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) will oversee the power supply to the street lights, and it would be operated through remote switch to turn the lights on and off at a particular time.
